A Grand Reopening for Union Depot in St Paul, a True Multi-Modal Hub Published on December 15, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version On Saturday, December 8, Saint Paul’s historic Union Depot was officially reopened to the public again and began serving transit passengers for the first time in 40 years!  With all the announcement made, 100's of eager residence came together for the grand reopening and festivities. The celebration began with opening remarks from several Ramsey County and St. Paul public officials, along with U.S. Senator, Amy Klobuchar, U.S. Representative, Betty McCollum and former U.S. Representative for Minnesota's 8th District, Chairman James Oberstar. In the closing remarks made by those who spoke the message was reverberated many times. "Let the journey begin, we once again have a center for Amtrak, bikes, buses and now the Central Corridor to all come together as a true multi-modal hub for the people." Shortly after the opening ceremonies wraped up the temporary wall separating the public from the waiting room came down and a family-friendly celebrations continued into the evening. Actors from Bedlam Theatre, dressed in period clothing from the 40's and 50's, recreated many historical events and moments out of that time, along with artists, musicians, and belly dancers.   Around this grand room of the Union Depot, interactive booths featuring historical information and current transportation ideas were also share in an entertaining fashion.
