Minnesota Bicycle Summit on Capitol Hill - Save the Date!
Published on January 31, 2013Email To Friend    Print Version

local_hero.jpgOn Monday, February 25, 2013, bicycle advocates throughout the state will once again gather in Saint Paul for the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota's (BikeMN) 3rd annual Bike Summit to help Minnesota set the pace with the rest of the nation in bike friendliness, education and safety. Your presence is necessary to inform our elected leaders of critical issues surrounding bicycling in Minnesota.  Your attendance and support  will help make a difference!srtsnp_logo.gif

On the summit platform are two items of unfinished business from last year. Top the 2013 legislative list is funding for the newly created Safe Routes to School program. Also on the agenda from last year is the passing of the vulnerable user law. And new this year are proposals to create a Pedal Minnesota license plate and make more changes to the traffic regulations and "Operation of a Bicycle" laws that will make it easier for bicyclists to safely use Minnesota's roadways.

Tentative Summit Schedule
• 9:30 am. - Registration and continental breakfast
• 10 a.m. - Morning sessions will begin at Christ Lutheran Church, directly across the street from the Capitol building
• Noon . - Lunch provided by Golden's Deli (included in registration fee)
• 1:30 p.m. - Rally for our cause and visit Bicycle Friendly Community and Bicycle Friendly Business exhibits in the Capitol rotunda
• 9  a.m. to  5 p.m. - Meet with legislators to discuss the BikeMN Legislative Agenda

Capitol_2.jpgBikeMN will schedule appointments for attendees to meet with legislators again this year. Morning sessions will include details on the proposed legislation and reasons to support it. We'll discuss methods to encourage better and safer bicycling, and coach attendees on the best practices in talking with the legislators. Appointment times with specific legislators will be posted the morning of the Summit to assist you in mapping your day. Please plan to attend a meeting with your legislator even if you aren't able to attend the full Summit.2011_Summit_2.jpg

Lunch will be provided before the assembly marches to the State Capitol to rally for our cause, meet with legislators and view displays in the rotunda.

REGISTER NOW! The cost to attend is $10 in advance for members of the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota, $15 for non-members, or $20 at the door. Join BikeMN or renew your membership today (scroll down for a limited-time membership discount).
